Custom Fields in Wherewolf let users create custom questions beyond predefined fields like Age or Name, supporting various data types such as Boolean, Date, Freetext, and Select options. These fields are managed centrally, can be edited or deleted, and improve data collection and staff workflow efficiency.
What are Custom Fields?
Wherewolf comes with built in fields like Age, Name, and Date of Birth. However, every business is different, and sometimes you need to ask questions beyond those defaults. Custom Fields allow you to create your own fields and link them to the questions you want to ask.
Custom Fields support all the common types of information you might need, including:
- Boolean: A single true/false value. Useful for Yes/No questions such as "Do you have a pet?"
- Boolean Dictionary: A list of true/false values. Used with a YesNoChecklist page.
- Date: A date value (not including time, just date), and used with a DateInput page. Useful for questions such as "When did you sit your first aid certification?"
- Freetext: A string value from a free TextInput page. Useful for questions such as "What is the name of your pet?". As this is a free text input, the data captured is not suitable for use in a graph or performing analytics.
- Image: An image. From a signature, a selfie, a photo of ID, etc.
- Initial: A guests initials (mini-signature) against a block of text. Used with the Initial page type.
- Number: A numeric value. Used with the NumberInput page type. Useful for questions such as "How many pets do you have?" or "How many times have you been to the gym?"
- Multi Select: A list of chosen options from a MultiSelect page. Such as "Which pizza toppings to include?" or "Which states have you lived in?"
- Single Select: Holds the output of a SingleSelect page - where only one choice is selected. Such as "Do you need a taxi?" or "What is your favorite color?"
What are Custom Field Options?
Custom Field Options only apply to Multi Select and Single Select questions.
For these types of questions, you can set up a predefined list of choices for people to pick from.
These options are then shown clearly in the Operations View, making it easy for staff to review or edit them if needed.
What if I do not define Custom Fields Options?
If you don’t set Custom Field Options, the system will use the Page Question Options by default.
Why use Custom Field Options over Page Question Options?
Custom Field Options give you one central place to manage your lists, instead of having to dig through individual Forms and Pages to update them. They also display more cleanly in the Operations View, making them easier for staff to work with.

The label shows up in column headings, form field labels, and the PDF export.
It doesn’t have to match the Page question exactly.
